Topics Addressed at Last Meeting on May 22:

The Parish Programs Discernment Sub-Committee focused on outside groups that wish to use our space. The following issues were discussed:

  1. What groups currently use the church?
  2. What revenue is obtained through these groups?
  3. What groups wanted to use the space but could not?
  4. Complaints and concerns from these groups.
  5. Complaints and concerns about these groups.

Beyond these questions, listed here are some bullet points of that came out of discussion: Soundproofing could be accomplished if new construction is made with concrete. Stacking chairs should be available via a hallway or right in the room being used—they should not be put in a room that is often used by others (as is the situation now in the Guild Room). Separate entrances for various parts of the building could ehnance security when outside group are using our space by being able to 'lock off' sections of the building. High quality movable walls within a larger space could create smaller spaces so a single large room could be used by several groups at the same time. Since our space will likely be vertical, at least one elevator should be constructed. Restrooms within multi-purpose rooms, or at least multiple restrooms off hallways, would create more privacy. If we build over the park, we will need a kitchen that we can use to prepare food for picnics and other events. This might necessitate a different level of insurance. Rooms with natural light would be ideal. There should be some sort of general storage space so that items could be stored short-term or long-term by various groups. The sanctuary and most/all of the rest of the space should be non-carpeted.
