Topics Addressed at Last Meeting on May 29: Programs Serving Adults in the Parish - Wayne Floyd spoke on behalf of Education/Formation. He said that three different types of spaces are needed for adult education: private space for small groups to meet, such as for Sunday Salons, that could also be used as the parish library; whether or not combined with education space, a combination library and resource center; and a larger space for parish events (such as a speaker like Gene Robinson) that could seat 100 people and be audio/visual ready. Wayne described the space at St. Patrick’s Church where large glass panels at the back of the sanctuary open the space up so that it effectively doubles the space.
- Tim Hagy recommended a Choir Room, roughly equal to the space they had once used, that would also contain his office. This space would not need to be adjacent to the sanctuary.
- Sacred Grounds does not need dedicated space, but space that is welcoming for social events. This would include an appropriate floor surface and contemporary furnishings.
- Inclusion Committee (and Parish Life) spoke strongly about a working kitchen where food could easily be cooked, served, and stored. Hopefully, there would be a window to the social space so that serving could be easily accomplished.
- The sub-committee discussed two other ideas. One is that social space could front the park (or terrace) and sliding glass doors could open up the space so that the outside and inside meet. Wayne also mentioned that people seem to need twice the social space as they do worship space.
- The Pastoral Care Committee’s input is still needed, as is additional input from Parish Life.
Next Meeting:June 19, 2008 at 7:00pm at the church Agenda Items: All of the information gathered thus far will be discussed so that a final report can be submitted to the Discernment Committee. Pizza will be provided! Feedback Needed from Parishioners: The Parish Programs Sub-committee has not yet received input from Pastoral Care, Parish Life, or the Outreach Committee. We value your input and invite you to send ideas about your needs to either Brock Thompson (
