The Past We Share
St. Thomas’ Parish has been a progressive Episcopal Church at the heart of Washington, DC, for more than 120 years, a haven of service and spirit.
Our vision and mission have focused repeatedly on human rights and marginalized populations, reaching out locally as well as internationally to support equality and economic opportunity.
We welcomed Teddy Roosevelt, the Herbert Hoovers, and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt -- he served on our vestry before being elected President and she was the first lay woman to speak from our pulpit.
St. Thomas' was an enthusiastic participant in the movements of liturgical reform in the Episcopal Church in the 1970s, and we remained committed to the Dupont Circle neighborhood, as generations have grown up, worshiped, married, and buried loved ones as part of our parish family.
