Topics Addressed at Last Meeting on June 2nd:

Reviewed our progress to date, especially our initial and follow-up contacts with people we will need to consult with, including real estate professionals, developers, and fundraisers

Reviewed a number of task areas in some detail, including potential sale of parish assets (comparative market analysis on the Rectory, as well as valuation on the parking lot); development options (we have identified several contractors, smaller sized companies, who might show greater interest in our parcel of real property than larger companies); debt (we discussed the differences between borrowing money to fund the building project versus borrowing money to fund specific dedicated programs); external fundraising sources (research into potential options for “tax exempt” financing; “faith based” financing, which would probably be dedicated to secular programmatic purposes)

“Universal Design,” we discussed how St. Thomas’ could use this construction design concept; it is intended to be ultra-accessible to all people, including individuals with disabilities; “live-cycle” in nature, equally accessible to infants and elders and everyone in between; “green” and sustainable and environmentally friendly; cost of construction may be 25% or more higher than standard construction; therefore, higher initial start-up costs should be weighed against long-term benefits.

Continued to make and refine assigned task areas to individual committee members

Next Meeting:

Monday, June 9th, 2008 7:00 pm, St. Thomas’ Parish – Guild Room

Agenda: Review progress to date

Feedback needed from parishioners: Our committee’s goal is to take a financial inventory of all parish assets and potential revenue sources potentially available to the parish. We will research all feasible options with the intention of providing reliable and quantifiable facts and analysis to the Discernment committee, Vestry, and Parish members so they can make an informed decision on the future growth of the parish.

We would encourage everyone in the parish to review the Finance committee’s charge and provide any information or resources which may assist with our review. And we would encourage anyone to join the Finance committee to lend their time and talents to the process.
